Indoor Club Champion for 2024/25

The winners of our ladies and gents singles competitions have competed against one another in a final of finals to determine the overall SBC Indoor Club Champ for the current season.

In a close match it was Garry who came out on top 6-3 in a fine game against Pauline. Well done to both players, in particular Garry who has had a great indoor season.

SBC Short Mat Pairs Championship Decided

Our indoor pairs Club championship was held on Saturday 8 March. Thanks to all members who signed up to participate in what turned out to be a most enjoyable event with some high quality short mat bowls skills on display.

Our pairs champs for this season are Garry and Neil who narrowly pipped Joy and Steve for the title.

We took advantage of a beautiful sunny day for the pictures of our winners and runners up.

Ladies and Gentlemen's Short Mat Singles Competition

Our ladies' and gent's singles competition was held on Saturday 1 February.

The standard of bowls from all entrants was of the highest order, with the result that in both competitions, three participants finished tied based on matches won in the round-robin events.

The competition rules dictated that shots for and against the tied players should decide the winners.

Consequently in the ladies competition, Pauline was the victor with Jenny a very creditable runner-up.

Garry narrowly won the men's competition with Neil taking the second spot.

Thanks to all entrants for making it such a successful and enjoyable day.

Pauline and Garry will play a final match against each other to determine our overall indoor singles champion.

Short Mat Triples Competition

On Saturday 11 January 2025, our annual indoor triples competition took place. Thanks to all members who participated and particular thanks to Garry for organising the event.

The picture below shows the winning team who were unbeaten in the round-robin competition. L to R - Garry, Rosemary, Jon. Many congratulations to them on a fine performance and well deserved victory.

Partrick Cup - Handicap Competition

Our annual outdoor handicap championship of 2024 was decided on the afternoon of Sunday 1 September.

Playing in ideal weather, Kevin and Ted met in the final.

After the scheduled 18 ends, Kevin (0 handicap) and Ted (+3) were tied at 14 shots each. Scoring a single shot in the additional, deciding end gave Kevin the narrowest of victories. Well done to both players on a fine match.

SBC Drawn Pairs Competition

The pairing of Dennis and Ted in our Drawn Pairs Competition was always going to be a tricky one to defeat. And so it proved when they triumphed in the final played on 30 August when they overcame the challenge of Steve and Kevin.

Well done to everyone who made it through to the final and our champions in particular.

Pauline Retains Walker Cup

Our annual outdoor ladies championship has been concluded with Pauline retaining the trophy which she won last year - not to mention a number of previous occasions! Congratulations Pauline and well done too to Lizanne who finished in second place having won only one match less than Pauline in the round-robin competition.

Aussie Pairs Final

On the evening of Friday 9 August our annual Aussie Pairs Championship was decided.

A random draw had placed Lizanne and Ted together and also teamed up Aaron with Neil, who were able to achieve the win in the face of stiff competition.

SBC Wetenhall Cup

Playing in extremely warm conditions, our Wetenhall Cup singles competition was decided on the afternoon of Thursday 1 August 2024.

Kevin and Barrie had progressed through the various rounds of this knockout competition to meet in the final.

Congratulations to Kevin who was the worthy winner of the event.

Vets Pairs Competition Decided

Playing against last year's winners - Kevin and Neil, Barrie and Dennis have triumphed in this year's Vets Pairs Championship.

They took an early lead and were able to stay ahead through to the conclusion of the 18 end final.

Many congratulations to the worthy winners.

Summer 2024 SBC Triples Winners

Our annual outdoor triples competition was decided on the evening of Friday 28 June 2024.

The team of (pictured l to r) Dennis, Jon and Ted romped to victory in their match against Steve, Neil and Garry to take a well deserved win.

Short Mat Pairs Competition

Saturday 9 March saw the conclusion of our internal, short mat Club competitions.
With pairings determined by a random draw, it was the team of Pauline and Barrie who just managed to fend off strong challenges from Ron and Lizanne who finished in second place, and Rosemary and Joy who were third.
Each of the leading three partnerships finished with identical winning/drawing/losing results. Therefore, the winners were determined on the basis of their better ratio of shots won to shots lost.
Well done to everyone who participated in the event and special thanks to Garry for organising us all.
Congratulations to Pauline and Barrie whose names will be added to our Club honours board.

SBC Short Mat Champion Decided

On the evening of Friday 9 February our ladies indoor champion Lizanne, and gentlemen's winner Graham, played against each other to determine the overall SBC indoor champion for the 2023/24 season.

Lizanne took an early 6-0 lead after just two ends, meaning that Graham was always on the back foot. However, he managed to score 2 shots in the final scheduled end, thereby levelling the score. An additional, deciding end was required to decide the match, with Graham taking the victory by a single shot.

Congratulations to both players on a fine match. Well done Graham - our indoor short mat champion.

2023/24 Indoor Club Champion - Graham

Ladies Short Mat Championship

Many congratulation to new Club member Lizanne, who on the morning of Saturday 3 February, became our 2023/24 ladies short mat champ.

Lizanne and Joy finished the competition equal on points based on matches won, but a count back of shots for and against made Lizanne the winner.

Short Mat Triples Competition

We were delighted to have attracted interest from 18 Club members for our 2023/24 Triples Competition which was held on Saturday 13 January. Thanks to everyone who arrived on time for the 09:00 start.

Teams were selected by a random draw with the team of Ron, Rosemary and Graham proving too strong for the opposition in winning all of their five round robin matches. Many congratulations to them.

Indoor Short Mat Competitions

We have made an encouraging start to our winter series of indoor matches against local Northamptonshire teams. Hopefully our good form will continue through the rest of our games.

Additionally, the first two of our internal Club competitions have been completed. In the Fours Competition played on the morning of Saturday 28 October, The team of Ted, Rosemary, Ron and Garry were victorious against stiff opposition. Congratulations to them.

Our men's singles competition took place on Saturday 18 November. The competition took the form of a round robin with each of the competitors playing a 6 end, 4 wood match against everyone else. Well done Graham M who won all but one of his matches and therefore receives the club trophy. Congratulations are also due to Steve who finished in second place. Steve has only been a member of the club for a year and is already showing more experienced players how it should be done. The pictures below show winner Graham and second placed Steve. Many congratulations to them both.
